History of ULIBAAA

The University of Liberia Alumni Association in the Americas (ULIBAAA) was established to unite alumni, former students, and staff of the University of Liberia (UL) who reside in the Americas and the broader diaspora. The organization emerged from a shared desire among UL graduates living abroad to maintain their connection to their alma mater and contribute meaningfully to its continued development.

The University of Liberia itself has a rich and storied history, tracing its roots back to 1862 when it was founded as Liberia College — making it one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in sub-Saharan Africa. Over the decades, the university has grown significantly, expanding its academic programs and infrastructure to serve the educational needs of the Liberian people.

ULIBAAA was formally organized in the United States and has since grown into a vibrant network of chapters spanning multiple states across the Americas. The association is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, reflecting its commitment to charitable, educational, and community-focused activities.

Over the years, ULIBAAA has organized annual conventions, fundraising events, and scholarship programs to support students at the University of Liberia. The association has also engaged in advocacy efforts to promote the interests of Liberian diaspora communities and to strengthen ties between Liberia and the Americas.

Today, ULIBAAA continues to grow and evolve, guided by its founding principles of unity, service, and excellence. The association remains steadfast in its mission to support the University of Liberia's mission of teaching, research, socio-economic development, and service to the Republic of Liberia and the world at large.
